Borlotti Bean Tintoretto is a very productive dwarf variety that produces a quality crop of colourful red and cream mottled pods. The pods reach 16cm long and contain about 8 plump creamy white/red striped, spotty colourful beans.

Once Borlotti Beans are cooked they go a light brown colour but the creamy texture makes for a homegrown delight particularly as fresh borlotti beans are almost impossible to buy fresh because they begin to harden after 7 days. The beans can be allowed to harden off and will store well for use later in an airtight container.

Borlotti Bean Tintoretto matures early and copes really well with less than favourable weather conditions. It does well in containers and can be grown indoors or outdoors. Borlotti Bean Tintoretto is a useful dwarf variety that produces quality flavoursome plump, succulent Borlotti Beans.

Indoor Sowing Information

Site: Any, but especially sunny site.
When to Sow:
April to May.
How to Sow:
Soak seed in warm water for an hour or so to aid germination. Sow 1 or 2 seeds in a pot of compost, 2.5 cm deep. Water and firm soil gently. Cover with glass, polythene or place in a propagator and keep at about 15í« ́C. Remove lid when seedlings appear pull out the weakest seedling when big enough to handle. Gradually acclimatise during the day in late May so as to avoid frosts. Then plant out 25cm apart and 60cm apart in rows.
Care:
They are hungry plants so when planting put a lot of organic matter at the roots. Feed with a high potash fertilizer 2 or 3 times when in flower. Support can be provided by using twigs.
Harvest: July to October when the plants have coloured up. The pods can also be left on the plant to mature and dry out.

When to Sow:
May to early June.
How to Sow:
Soak seed in warm water for an hour or so to aid germination. In a prepared seed bed sow 2 seeds together 5cm deep spacing 25cm apart and 60cm between rows.
Care:
When big enough to handle remove the weaker seedling. They are hungry plants so when planting put a lot of organic matter at the roots. Feed with a high potash fertilizer 2 or 3 times when in flower. Support can be provided by using twigs.
Harvest: July to October when the plants have coloured up. The pods can also be left on the plant to mature and dry out.
