Carrot Sweet Candle F1 Seeds (AGM)
Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds
Carrot 'Sweet Candle' is the variety to have if you want the best carrots on the allotment or in your garden! They produce an exceptional tasting and high yielding carrot with uniform cylindrical-shaped roots with rounded tips. Rich orange in colour with an extra sweet flavour. Excellent for late summer and a proven winner for exhibitors and shows.
Very versatile variety as can be eaten raw, grated in salads, and of course perfect for the Sunday dinner!
A good variety for exhibition use. Try making holes with a bar, filling with sandy compost and sowing seeds at each station for large specimen carrots.
Growing Tip:
Try growing carrots with Spring Onion, Leeks, and Mint whose aromatic leaves deter carrot root fly.
Carrot Sweet Candle Seed Information
Seed Quantity: | Approx 200 seeds per pack. |
Site: |
Deep, fertile sandy soil free from stones is ideal. Don't grow on ground that has been manured in the last year as it causes forking. A sunny spot is perfect.
|
When to Sow: |
April to July
|
How to Sow: |
Sow thinly, directly into a drill 1.5cm deep. Aim for a seed every 5 - 7cm to avoid the need for too much thinning and sow in rows 30cm apart. If you do need to thin do it at night when the carrot-fly is not around. Lightly cover the seed with fine soil and water carefully with a fine hose. Seedlings should appear at about 17 days.
|
Care: |
Water at night and keep watered in dry periods. Try not to weed especially during the day as it may attract carrot-fly.
|
Harvest: | June to November. Lift all remaining roots by November, remove soil from the roots and store in dry sand but do not allow the carrots to touch each other as it can cause rotting. |
