Broad Bean The Sutton Seeds (AGM)
Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds
Broad Bean The Sutton is a gardeners old favourite variety as it is reliable and produces plenty of pods filled with 5-6 lovely nutty-tasting white broad beans. It has very pretty flowers that are white with nearly black splodges on the centre lips.
Broad Bean The Sutton is an excellent dwarf variety and as it only reaches a height of 45cm it is particularly suitable for windy sites & for growing in pots/containers. An excellent productive dwarf Broad Bean for those where space is at a premium. This variety well deserves its AGM that was first awarded by the RHS in 1993 and then reconfirmed in 1999 trials.

If the soil is moist they can be pushed into the ground or alternatively dig a little hole with a hand trowel. Sow a few spare at the end of the row, so these can be transplanted if there are some failures. Seedlings will germinate within 7-14 days. Water and keep well watered in dry periods. Cloches can be used in winter to give added protection too ensure success.
|
Care: |
They do not require support. When the first beans begin to form, pinch out the top 8cm to encourage the plants energy into forming more pods. This also helps to discourage black-fly who love the tender shoots. Make sure crops are well-watered through out the season.
