Cabbage Duncan F1 Seeds
Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds
Cabbage Duncan F1 (AGM) is an excellent versatile variety to sow successionally. Sow early in the year to give lovely hearted cabbages by summer or mature cabbages by late summer. Or sow July to October and it will produce 'spring greens' in early spring, but if left to grow on will give crisp hearts through to June and maincrop cabbages till October.
Cabbage Duncan is a small pointed variety that has crisp, sweet and nutty leaves, an excellent variety and size for the home-grower and is great in the kitchen too. We love it gently sauteed with butter, salt and pepper & a sprinkle of chilli flakes in the spring and also gently fried until crispy (like Chinese seaweed) to add flavour to top off our Chinese style stir-fries or just as a flavoursome side dish for our Roast dinners.
Cabbage Duncan is an excellent cabbage that can grace the table nearly all year round. A much-welcomed variety that can help fill the hungry gap of early to mid-spring when little else is available to harvest.
Cabbage Duncan Vegetable Seed Information
Seed Quantity: | Approx 50 seeds per pack. |
Site: |
They prefer well-consolidated ground. They do not like freshly manured soil and do not plant this after another brassica as it can lead to a build-up of disease especially club-root.

When to Sow: |
Indoor Spring sowings February to April |
How to Sow: |
Sow seed thinly (late April to May) in a well-prepared seedbed, 1cm deep in rows 15cm apart. If the soil is dry, water it well and allow to drain before sowing seeds. Seedlings appear 7-12 days. When seedlings have 5-6 leaves transplant into permanent bed, spacing 45cm apart in rows 45cm apart. The soil will benefit from adding a general purpose fertiliser before transplanting, gently rake it in but do not fork in as cabbages like well-consolidated ground. Water well and keep well watered. Indoor spring & late summer/autumn sowings can be sown in small pots and kept in a greenhouse/polytunnel. Transplant outside after about 5-6 weeks in September/October after hardening off. They will benefit from some added protection like cloches at this early stage. |
Care: |
Keep well-watered in summer and occasionally in winter if ground dry. Hoe occasionally to keep weed free, and build up soil around base to help keep them upright.
