Carrot Paris Market Atlas Seeds
Vegetable Seeds from Sow Seeds
Carrot ‘Paris Market Atlas’ is an improved variety of the 19th century French heirloom, an early Parisian Market-type carrot that feature the traditional globe shape roots. Smooth, round, bite-sized and instantly recognisable, this very flavoursome variety has a deep-crisp refreshing taste. They are ideal for growing in containers and shallow, hard stony soil....even possible to grow them in clay soil!
Can be grown as an Early, Second Early or Maincrop carrot.
They are ideal for children to grow themselves in a container. Equally ideal for the school lunchbox making a tasty and healthy snack.
Carrot Paris Market can be sown under cover from November - March.
Sow seed thinly to reduce the need for thinning as carrot-fly are attracted by the sweet smell. It is considered good companion planting to sow rows of carrots in between rows of onions as the smell of the onions puts off the carrot fly.
Good companions: Try growing with Spring Onions, Leeks, Mint

Fertile sandy soil free from stones is ideal, although if growing in a container then standard compost will be fine. Avoid ground that has been manured in the last year as it can cause forking. A sunny spot is perfect.

When to Sow: |
Indoors: November - March
Outdoors: March - July |
How to Sow: |
Sow seed thinly in polytunnel or greenhouse, directly into a drill 1.5cm deep in rows 15cm apart. Lightly cover the seed with fine soil and water with a fine hose. Seedlings should appear at about 17 days. If you do need to thin do it at night when the carrot-fly is not around and aim for a carrot every 5-7.5cm.
|
Care: |
Water at night and keep watered in dry periods. Try not to weed during the day as it may attract carrot-fly.
|
Harvest: | February to October. Early varieties may be lifted when required from 9 weeks onwards, while maincrops can be harvested from 12 weeks after their sowing date. Pull a single carrot first to assess the size of the roots. If the soil is dry, lifting carrots can be made easier by watering beforehand. Roots can be stored in a cool, dry place for up to 4 months. Lift all remaining roots by October, remove soil from the roots and store in dry sand but do not allow the carrots to touch each other as it can cause rotting |
