Chilli Pepper Scotch Bonnet Yellow Seeds
Chilli Seeds from Sow Seeds
Scotch Bonnet Yellow is a very very hot pepper with strong aroma that gets its name from the Scottish hat it resembles.
Scotch Bonnet Yellow is Native to Central America and grown as a vegetable, Capsicum chinense is a tropical herb that is 70-80 cm tall. C. chinense varieties are well known for their unique flavours and many have exceptional heat. The hottest peppers in the world are members of this species, with Scoville Heat Unit scores of over 2 million. The leaves are compound with each leaf composed of 3 leaflets. The flowers found in the axils of leaves. They are white and occur singly or in clusters of two. The fruit is used as a flavouring and spice. It has tonic and antiseptic properties. It increases perspiration, reduces pain sensitivity, and stimulates the circulatory and digestive systems.
The Scotch Bonnet chillies measure 2.5 to 4cm long by 2.5 to 3cm wide and they mature from a lovely pale green to yellow. It is a short bushy plant that reaches about 50cm tall and looks 'fab' in containers.
Scotch Bonnets mature late (late Aug/Sept) therefore sow early to ensure it produces high yields. The chillies are best fresh but this thin-walled variety can also be frozen/pickled or put in olive oil very successfully.
This is not one for the 'faint hearted' but great for chilli heads!
